Independent Publishers Flourish, but Not by the Book

In the midst of economic turmoil, The Huntington News recognizes that the small size of independent publishers and their tendency to appeal to a loyal niche audience may be what’s keeping them afloat. “Book publishing is such a small, poor and difficult industry to begin with, that it’s hard for things to get much worse,” Paul Williams, executive director of The National Association of Independent Publishers Representatives (NAIPR) said. “Being small and lean to begin with is an advantage when the economy goes south.”
