Galvanized by W. Joe Hoppe

Poems that last.

W. Joe Hoppe powers up the poetry scene with Galvanized, his latest inimitable trip through the world of old cars, new babies, high and lowbrow art, tools of industry, down and outers, and, of course, The American Road. Joe’s mighty, mighty heart is on full throttle here. As hypertext pioneer and novelist Michael Joyce says, “Sinister, smartass, delicate, tough all at once…” Joe’s are poems that last, clear-eyed and accessible, and with a beauty inescapable and unabashedly working class American. Don’t mind the grease, this love is bolted to the bone. Joe’s a genuine, and these poems are polished paeans to the boldness of an unflinchingly generous heart.

W. Joe HoppeW. Joe Hoppe was born December 24, 1961, one day before Ed Roth picked up a magic marker and drew Rat Fink for the first time on a refrigerator door. Along with his artist wife P.S. Monear, Joe has published about a dozen chapbooks through Lucky Tiger Press. His poems have appeared in the periodicals Analecta, Borderlands, Cider Press Review, Di*Verse*Cities, Nerve Cowboy, and Utter. His poems have been anthologized in Stand Up Poetry and How to be This Man. Look for his work on the Internet at gumballpoetry.com and the now defunct poetrytonight.com. W. Joe’s one-of-a-kind poetry video, “$5200 MSTA” has been shown at the Dallas Video Festival, San Antonio Underground Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, and VideoEx in Zurich, Switzerland. Joe currently teaches English and Creative Writing at Austin Community College.

Praise for Galvanized

“Joe Hoppe’s poems are like soft steel and, if you can imagine that, then think of steel formed into flowers, the whorls of Frank Gehry’s dreams perhaps become orchids, hanging languorously from a fragile stem. Sinister, smartass, delicate, tough all at once, as if you come out of a biker bar and this guy is talking to you or the night or some unseen child and you are more fascinated than afraid, the moon echoing on the chromed machine.” -Michael Joyce, Hypertext Pioneer and Novelist
